PROJECT PARTNERS

Many scientists and engineers -- from the UW, other universities, the U.S. Geological Survey, the Washington Division of Geology and Earth Resources, the City of Seattle, King County, other local agencies, and private businesses -- are working to identify geologic hazards in Puget Sound. The work is anticipated to take many years, but some of the early products are already being incorporated into landslide-hazard and earthquake-hazard maps being developed in parallel by the USGS and others. This work is coordinated with FEMA's Project Impact, a long-term program to reduce disaster costs through informed planning. This work is also being conducted in consort with investigations into the deep crustal structure and the regional geologic framework of western Washington, particularly as they may affect condition along the rapidly urbanizing Seattle-Tacoma urban corridor and the associated urbanizing fringes of Pierce and Kitsap counties.
